I finally set up a @peertube instance, and I'm excited to begin playing with it! As I continue configuring it, though, I'm struck by some confusing UI issues that I always find frustrating about Peertube.1.) Why do non-logged-in guests have a 'Publish' button in the upper right? This creates an unrealistic expectation that this platform is like YouTube and that anyone should be able to register and publish videos. It seems that 99% of instances don't work this way.#peertube #fediverse

@peertube 2.) For the same reason, why can't I hide the 'login' button so that guests viewing my instance can understand that this is a place for my friends and I to upload videos and for guests to only watch? It seems that most Peertube instances are meant for this. What percentage of people viewing any peertube instance will be logging into that instance? Very, very few.#peertube #fediverse

@peertube3.) Also, why are users prompted to log in when they want to 'Like' or 'Dislike' a video? They don't have an account and can't get one (99% of the time)!I guess those are my main concerns, and they're tied into one concept: PeerTube (wisely, I think) is imitating the YouTube UI, but not only is YouTube a platform with the resources to host countless users... It's also designed to strongly encourage people to use their Google accounts, which Google profits from.#peertube #fediverse

@peertubeWith Peertube, it isn't necessarily that way, right? The fact of the matter is that most Peertube instances will not be accepting registration, and they will not be encouraging users to upload video, simply because of technical limitations. There should be settings to hide the 'Publish' button unless logged in, and to hide the 'Login' button somewhere discrete. Viewers should be able to Like videos without being logged into that instance (such as via Fediverse).#peertube #fediverse
