Are rice cookers supposed to bubble over and all over the place leaving a huge fucking mess? I usually make rice without one on the stovetop, but I got gypped one too many times by the rice not cooking the same despite doing everything exactly the same way. I bought a basic zojirushi cooker thinking it'd make life easier, and sure enough first go it bubbles all over the damn place leaving a nasty rice sludge all around it. The rice was pretty good despite this.

@Mumu I thought Rice cookers were used for terrorism uses such as the Boston bombing. So the answer is yes they do tend to make a mess everywhere.

@fuknukl they clearly are terror devices. Maybe I bought the wrong one but $70 seemed enough for me to pay

@Mumu $70 for an IED seems ultra expensive...

@Mumu I had that experience when I had a rice cooker long ago. Not that it will help you now but I cook rice in a pressure cooker now, which cannot leak because it’s a pressure vessel

@Malarkey33 I use a dutch oven with a heavy lid before for rice and yeah there's no issues with boil-overs, my problem is that if I cooked the same rice using the exact same volumes of rice, water, etc., and the same times and heats, I'd get different rice every time. Was hoping the cooker would prevent this issue and simplify things, but it seems to have very messy side-effects

@Mumu the pressure cooker may be more consistent than a Dutch oven, it has a temperature control similar to a rice cooker (the magnet trick mechanism attached to the bottom of the cooker)
