If you have an undocumented #json file you want to convert into markdown files, what is the best tool to get an understanding of the data structure?#python #programming #obsidian

@anders@thoresson.social Well, since JSON is schema-less ... probably import json and your brain. That said, you could write a script that will recursively process a JSON object and spit out keys and types... JSON doesn't have many types, so should be pretty straight-forward...if isinstance(value, list): print(f"{key}: Array")

@notroot I was hoping that there already are tools out there that would help me visualize it in some way. :)

@anders@thoresson.social There probably is... yeah. There's a tool for every little thing! Finding them sometimes takes longer than doing it oneself, tho.I hate to say it, but that's just the sort of thing ChatGPT is actually good at LOL

@anders @notroot There‘s a visualizer tool for JSONs producing a graph-like view, for VS Code. Unfortunately I am away from my computer and can‘t re-google it at the moment

@anders My usual go-to for understanding #JSON is #jless (https://jless.io/), which is just a simple viewer that allows collapsing objects and arrays, but that's generally all I find myself needing. Depending on how you want to visualize it, you might or might not find that useful.
