       I was at the dollar store again and a shortish guy looked at me and said "Wow, you're probably as tall as Gene Simmons wearing his boots. I would have to stand on a table to kiss you." Then he turned all the way to face me and he was wearing a KISS sweatshirt.

       @MLE_online Maybe he's one of those furlong/firkin/fortnight kinda weirdos only his unit of measure is KISS and he measures distance in how tall Gene Simmons is, mass as a function of his weight, time by the average length of their songs...

       @chrishuck I used to sympathize with them being aghast at our silly system of units, but in the last few years, they've gotten condescending with it and now i feel i must defend our backwards customs

       @MLE_online Admittedly, I get annoyed at people that extol the metric system as being inherently better because it’s “base 10” which is “easier”. Because I deal in machined parts, I always want to ask why 6.375 inches is “worse” than 161.925 mm? Once decimals are involved, does it really matter? I just happen to know the decimal/fraction equivalents pretty well because of a lot of experience.

       @chrishuckI'm in favor of working up an Imperial metric system, based on twelves, but sometimes another number, to help entrench a priesthood. 12 mm to a cm, like that. Somehow there must be money to be made, right? Selling rulers?@MLE_online

       @chrishuck(I've literally had that same argument and hr answer is always ".... Metric is just better".And engineering esp electronics had always been metric. Imagine the fun of calculating resonant frequency etc when all the units are disjoint.)@MLE_online
