Because German government was busy killing German PV manufacturers by cheap imports from China 😉 What France does makes a lot of sense, because when China concentrated 80% of PV manufacturing (probably the same with EV), they are cheap only in the same way as Russian gas was cheap before 2021 - that is, they are cheap as long as you are compliant. And you have no say in the environmental, labour protection or CO2 standards of their manufacturing. So what French are doing makes a lot of sense.

@kravietz @Ste53 having no sense for strategy and only short term business interests at heart is good German tradition.

@kravietz @Ste53 I am from the Ruhr. My sister in law is Polish, my godmother is Polish, my neighbours next door are Polish. A quarter of my eldest daughter's class mates are Polish. And one of my great grandmothers was Silesian.

@t_mkdf Well, then this lack of strategic thinking must be some kind of a shared cultural trait because we absolutely had it before 18th century and the partitions!@Ste53

@kravietz I think this is comparing apples with pears. Photovoltaic modules are more or less been the same product, eather from Germany or from China. China was only able to manufact those things way cheaper because of massive help from the state in F&E.So missing protectionism was not the fault but missing Invest from the european states (call it subvention). In comparisson automobilists make their own faults. Building bigger and bigger cars, oversleep electrification and not lookin on the "real market" .Their lobby organisations think that kind of laws are a success but that kind of success will strike back drastical...
