A *browser* maker adds images to their toot ... but doesn't add alt-text to them. 🤦 Ever heard of the W3C Validator? If that wasn't bad enough (it is), it's a toot about "AI that's accessible" 🤦 🤦And if you want to talk with them, join the proprietary discord server?WTAF?What does it take before you finally fire your completely incompetent management? Can't we fork #Firefox and fund it via the EU f.e.? We need an alternative to G👀gle's browser, but @mozilla has completely lost it :-/

@FreePietje Re> Can't we fork #Firefox and fund it via the EU f.e.?I'd be curious to hear ideas on why this solution hasn't been picked, despite constant grumble. Is it being tried at the wrong scale? (thus far no entity of size of a state or bigger had picked it up)Are the democratic institutes not ripe enough to tackle it? Or not suit at all?Is it just too complex maybe for any meaningful solution?Questions is the only thing I have, alas not much in the way of answers.

@polezaivsani Forking a project as big and important as a webbrowser is a HUGE undertaking. You'll likely need a large number of skilled developers to join you.Maybe it's too bold to ask the EU to fund it and therefor no one tried? But there's a high probability that this would be seen as anti-competitive and therefor possibly illegal?I realize there is no actual competition in the browser 'market', but the EU may still see it as such and it could also invoke fears of setting precedents.

@FreePietje EU is paltry in their tech policy. I remember a couple good things happen here, but for the most part it is ridiculous.

I run uMatrix in Firefox and as opposed to the majority of internet sites, on Mastodon it's (almost?) always completely green 👍 Upon opening mozilla.social and I see it's not all green but 19 items where blocked. Including requests to googletagmanager and [incoming.]telemetry.mozilla.social.You see those dark-red bars? That means it's so bad that uMatrix blocks them by default (IOW: I didn't have to do that myself). You want feedback @mozilla?Fix your shit!

@FreePietje I know of another browser maker on the fediverse : @Vivaldi. And look at it, all images have alt-text.Moreover, they have their own instance : https://social.vivaldi.net and it looks quite green in uBlockO. (Don't know about uMatrix but hope you'll check for me ;) )Yes the browser is based on chromium. It's a pragmatic choices : they were at olde Opera, and they know the work needed to build an engine. With a team of 35, they just can't.And most of all, they are moral people.

@Cqoicebordel @Vivaldi I think everyone should add alt-text. #a11yA browser maker not doing that is unforgivable in my book.I think spending ones time on finding out and trying to undo G👀gle's #ShitFuckery is a never ending and by definition losing battle. I used to have Debian's Chromium as backup browser. Great work by great people, but still a battle you CANNOT win.So I uninstalled it.Plus, you'd be adding to the dominance of Chrome, risking the prevalence of chrome-only sites.

@FreePietje I mostly agree with you.As a user, you don't have a choice. But as a browser maker, you don't have a choice. It's either Chromium or nothing.Personally, I hate Fx, mainly because of Mozilla.I can't support them. For me they are always shooting themselves on the foot while crying for help.So yeah, it's a weird battle. But the founder of Vivaldi already won against Microsoft. Maybe he'll win again against Google. That's my hope anyway.
