So, I’m a basic illiterate when it comes to computers compared to probably everyone on here. My 9 y/o son has a growing interest in it and my wife and I are hoping to get him trained on coding. I’m curious what the appropriate, simpleton steps I should be taking to enable both his and my own education on the subject. Cheers in advance

@TrueNorth77 playing around with logic games like Human Resource Machine, Autonauts, and/or tools like Scratch, maybe some of the heavy engineering games (later on) like Oxygen Not Included or Factorio, and eventually books.in the past i would have said GameMaker but that sort of went away, now its just Scratch and GDevelop, RPG Maker, RPG In A Box, maybe TyranoBuilder, basically just the ones that let you make really basic games without having to know a whole lot about what you are doing.human resource machine is literally assembly programming heavily disguised as writing lists of instructions for little minions to follow.

@TrueNorth77 Learn to download & install linux as a goal before too longsome basic math is great when it comes to doing useful stuffpython is very nicecome up with a small project that will use the operations you need like persistent storage, communication, error conditions - like a small database to keep track of a record collection or a project to go through a directory of images & create a database of hashes, traversal, UI, datatypeswatch videos, learn to pseudocode, document ur code!

@TrueNorth77 We had BASIC when we were kids... it's so easy to get overwhelmed.Does he have friends who are already using any platform? Leanring computers works optimally when you're in a group of kids your own age and play ideas off of each other.I would look at this:https://www.commanderx16.comTry out their EMULATOR and see if you like it. That thing has been around for years + it acts just like the new hardware.Try it here:https://www.commanderx16.com/webemu/x16emu.html

@TrueNorth77 C for dummies, C++ for dummies, help him set up cygwin environment on your PC.Or as been said, get him his own PC (second-hand- store potato is fine) help him install Linux, an IDE - there are plenty of walkthroughs out there so you can do this together. There are game engine, graphics specifics resources too but they sorta assume you can code your way out of a paper bag.
