@jhx there is only one thing I am not running on OpenBSD and that is a large filesystem, ZFS on FreeBSD. Everything else is hosted on OpenBSD.

@jhx I just run the defaults and apmd. I only use that machine for tinkering and compiling stuff. A physical container if you will.

@jhxFor sure! Don't get put off by the Docker webhipsters - most stuff run perfectly fine on the lovely Pufferfish. And especially: enjoy the adventure and reclaiming your privacy! :flan_hurrah:

@jhx I run one of those "ghost" DNS things that are only visible via secondary DNS elsewhere. I also run email on another VPS. Planning on backup email and web/blog/git hosting under OpenBSD next.

@jhx At the moment itβs βonlyβ a firewall, a secondary mail server and a VPN host. Currently considering also hosting a Mastodon instance for myself, but Iβll have to set up some extra infrastructure for that as Iβm not sure I want to host that on yet another VPS.

@jhx Let's see...Currently: routing & packet filtering, DHCP, local caching DNS (nsd & unbound), reverse HTTP(S) proxy (relayd & httpd), HTTP (httpd & apache2), database (MariaDB), VPN (WireGuard), lots of SSH, version control systems (Subversion & Git), screen sharing (VNC via x11vnc) for workstations. On some machines, VMs (vmm/vmd).Previously and likely again: Twitch stream (RTMP via ffmpeg).

@mms @jhx Oh, no, definitely not! An edge router doing nothing more that routing & packet filtering, A couple other servers running VMs segregated by service (not for security, but to mitigate upgrades breaking multiple services at once) and sites (e.g. most websites have their own VM; for finer grained access control and -- again -- to mitigate an upgrade breaking dependencies for another site). Plus a primary workstation running -stable hosting a -current VM for ports development.
