When Musk said "Don't. Don't advertise." to Disney, that was brilliant. It's like throwing in their face what people in Hollywood have been saying to the audience for the past few years when you think about it. Like giving them a taste of their own medicine. I'm all here for it, especially when wealthy people roast each other. Hollywood has already decided to not be professionals when it comes to handling audience criticism so why should they be treated with professionalism? It is time we stopped catering to the advertisers and cared more about the audience/consumers instead. The advertisers wield too much power with money and it has gotten to their heads.

@sim Absolutely. This attitude that "the advertisers" are some kind of sugar-daddy philanthropist which gives money out of the goodness of their hearts and must be appeased at all costs, is ridiculous.Companies buy ads because they think they'll make more money as a result of the ad, than they spent on it. Disney or Hollywood stopping buying ads will hurt themselves as well, and the price of buying ads will go down, and some other companies will buy the dip and eat Disney's lunch.I agree with Elon that the threatening to pull ads as a block, is similar to blackmail, and I'm glad he's calling their bluff. It's not trading if either party can't walk away from the table with no deal, it's coercion.

Let’s not forget all the harm pharma corps have caused with their ads for defective products then heaped on more damage with pushing harmful politics by influence over content. This is not just MSM but also YouTube.

@aven I suppose it shows a need to move away from the ad-model for generating income. Or at least reminding advertisers that they aren't the customer. That they must adhere to the values of the people who are the real customers that both end up exploiting in this model.I think the part that makes it blackmail is the reasoning behind it. If they just pulled their ads because they think it isn't a good return for their money then that is one thing. But colluding with other corporations and to get back at Musk, because they claim to be doing this out of some social responsibility... I don't buy it. They leverage their position and money to make him fall in line. They have an inflated sense of importance and I'm glad Musk called their bluff and points out how inconsistent they are. They should not hold power over him and the consumer/people.

@thendrix @aven There needs to be more discussion on this and how the advertising model can be done in an ethical way while diminishing the unethical aspects they have been doing. Learning about the advertising model was a kicker for me... and I likely haven't scratched the surface of how bad it actually is and how much power it influences. We need to stop normalising this.
