Wow just got my first ever message from a stranger on the “public” #Meshtastic channel. Comes out they’re 38 km away with a rather poor antenna! My previous record was 30 km on the coast.

@kravietz please, where do i read more about this this most intriguing #meshtastic thing you mention? is this the one?https://meshtastic.org/p.s. i'm a sucker for cory doctorow's ideas, and suddently meshtastic (just the word) reminded me instantly of «someone comes to town, someone leaves town», easily my favourite since all those years (thank you @pluralistic for that!)

@tivasyk Yes, it’s this one! If you’re in Ukraine now, you’ve got very powerful Meshtastic community already there as they were testing it specifically for emergency comms - t.me/meshtastic_uaOne important note: Ukraine runs on 433 MHz, while most other EU run on 868 MHz@pluralistic

@tivasyk In other countries it very much depends - if there’s a community, there’s a network :) But most people start with the cheapest T-Beam with an antenna that can reach maybe 100 m and get discouraged, so their nodes pop up and disappear very fast :)
