Sorry for decreasing average uptime from 99.97% to 99.64%.We are still investigating the root cause for the downtime. It looks like it started within our file system.

@Codeberg Really? From and to 33% decrease? Sounds like a Japanese train apologizing for being 30 seconds late.

@tebriel Especially storage can get complicated soon … but no wonder if it's based on hard disks.

@Codeberg Mastodon instance?Too many files open at once? It is a flaw I tried to point out with the vanilla mastadon and even when I proposed a fix. Even in the face of evidence, I was given explanations that reveal a severe lack of knowledge about Ruby/Rack/Rails. Was told greater optimizations could be had elsewhere, despite the change was very simple, quick, and introduced massive improvements. I have to build a bigger following to overcome the politics of such claims unfortunately.

@Codeberg Are your servers Debian bookworm? With an ext4 filesystem? If so, please have a look at this:https://fulda.social/@Ganneff/111551628003050712

@the_moep Oh, far more interesting. I typically just use git with remote SSH servers, but it is nice to have an ethical place to put organizational code. What did you build the web-client in? Another Ruby/Rails project?I will definitely be looking into this, I have been obsessed with similar projects for a long time.Sorry to derail, I should have investigated the context further.

@ekis They are using Forgejo, a gitea fork (which iirc. they initiated? And gitea is a gogs fork) which has as one goal to integrate code hosting with the Fediverse/ActivityPub.

@the_moep I'm familiar with Gogs and Gitea, I found Gittea last time I looked at it a bit bloated for my taste, and was leaning towards Gogs for my own projects I was sharing with others. So I'm excited to learn about a fork from that project. I appreciate you taking the time to provide details even though my original post was a complete derailment. Thanks!

@ekis @the_moep Just for the record: We recommend that no one uses Gogs for anything serious. It has numerous critcal security issues. The latest one allows users to perform destructive actions in other users' repositories or access content from private repositories. And there are even more critical security issues that allow for similarly dangerous things.https://forgejo.org/2023-11-release-v1-20-5-1/#responsible-disclosure-to-gogs

@sbb We're currently mainly using btrfs and CephFS on Debian 12. There are two smaller VPS with ext4, so we'll check the post just in case, but they are less critical.
