This is relevant because it says a lot about the great future and who it is for (not us)TC: "Funding season is about to restart in Europe after the summer lull, and if all goes well, it will be counting new unicorns in dozens — plural ... Either way, this is also a good indication of the sectors that are hot among investors, from biotech and defense tech to AI, AI, and AI."And to top it off, the first one on the list is a company out of Delaware, but just another caveat for tech in Europe

The posturing of media figures contorting themselves to say Kirk was both bad but political violence is wrong bothers meBy making his death exceptional, normalizes the growing number of social murders happening dailyIll say it: I feel the world is better off w/o him, regardless of the shooters political ideasI feel that way not bc his bad takes but bc his dark money PAC negatively influencing politicsRather his death be normalized & others not beBc hope isnt enough to stop fascism

Fascists don't care about your vote, they fundamentally do not believe in democracy

The people in media can take that position because their families are not being dragged away by ICEBecause they have privilege; and they use it not to be honest about the reality we face, but to pretend to have moral high ground on social media I don't want to lose against fascists, the people who want me dead, I don't care when they dieI care about the innocent people who had their lives destroyed by his actionsI actually want to win, and not get crushed by this system they profit from

@futurebird @pozorvlak @glitzersachen @darkuncle @regehr just making people constantly guess if something is real, or aggregation of all of our collective work sold back to us is damaging enoughthe constant guessing and distrust will have incredibly negative consequences, especially as it advances and is held in the hands of so few

Can anyone living in Europe confirm there have been actual military grade drones beyond the initial one (or more?) that went into Poland? It really feels like from the outside that your governments are in a bit of hysteria in the way the US was late 2024 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_United_States_drone_sightingsItd be nice to hear from people who live there, and presumably not prone to hysteria or just believe what the media tells them

@arrrg Its nice to be around people who can at least see what is happening for what it is, it gives me lil'hope But then I go onto like bsky & see the top posts are all vapid hack posts, sycophancy for leaders posturing&posting and engagement farming off seriously troubling things with no even attempt analysis or substance, just look at this terrible thing.. kinda blieve a major problem we have is non far-right 'influencers' are mostly hacks wasting the moment; and I find it very troubling tbh

"Can AI Avoid the Enshittification Trap?"No."recently vacationed in Italy...ran my itinerary past GPT5 for sightseeing suggestions & restaurant recommendations"Embarrassing."When I got home, I asked the model how it chose that restaurant... The answer was complex and impressive"No, the answer was a hallucinationAn entire article based on hallucination by the editor-at-large of Wired by Steven LevyReporting on LLMs with a fundamental misunderstanding of how they work

I'm not going to get into all of the details but fundamentally LLMs do not index information with their source, its simply not how it worksA RAG can be used to pre-gather facts and they can be fed into with your prompt, which is why some "sources" on responses are totally and completely wrong sometimesWhen people say its more like an autocomplete, in this sense they are right, its a high-dimensional tensor which is sophisticated, but it can not & does not know where training data came from

Sam Altman a month ago said OpenAI needed to continue expanding so it wasnt a choice between _curing cancer_ or _offering free education to everybody on earth_Its the basis for raising capital & justification for pushing the planet closer to total ecological collapseSince then:1. A video platform to compete with Tiktok2. Altman claimed to solve AI psychosis & in the same post, that they were adding erotic chatbots3. Next a music generation toolHow is this not reported on as fraud?

Many may not be aware but video generation tools are vastly more energy intensive than simple text generationAnd the difference isn't like double, its orders of magnitude The same is true for audio toolsWe are not in a situation where compute is abundantSo this isn't because there is so much extra, its because it can't do what they claim it canAnd they know it can't

These companies get to break copyright law, they have unlimited funding, they face no threat of regulation, have the media repeating whatever lies they want. They have government contracts, essentially free money from the pentagonAnd they still can not make moneyAnd they are usually at best spending 3 dollars to make 1 dollarThey would not be flailing in the way they are if they had a real planAnd its now 33% of the US economy and growing amount of EU and UK economy

"AI models may be developing their own ‘survival drive’, researchers say" - Guardian The "research paper" was a tweet by an AI companyThe "experiment" was asking the LLM to shut downA model is ~not~ shutdown ~ever~ by asking a model to shut itself down*The only possible response is a hallucination*You shut down a model by turning off the deterministic software running it; so works every time w/o failYet Guardian's shill tech writers just report AI industry tweets as if it was fact

Steven Adler, a former OpenAI employee (who clearly has AI psychosis): "Id expect models to have a ‘survival drive’ by default unless we try very hard to avoid it. ‘Surviving’ is an important instrumental step for many different goals a model could pursue"Models don't have fucking goalsThey are stateless"Palisade Research received significant funding, including a grant of $1,680,000 from Open Philanthropy, aimed at studying AI capabilities"Meanwhile real researchers struggle for funding

"Andrea Miotti, the chief executive of ControlAI, said Palisade’s findings represented a long-running trend in AI models growing more capable of disobeying their developers"Growing capability of disobeying? Models don't do anything but infer text output. Which much can be said about the quality of it, but they reliably do itGrowing more capable? Again this person has AI psychosis, or is a web3 scammer, or woefully ignorant about their supposed field of expertise to everyone elses detriment

Guardian shouldn't be spreading what should be obvious misinformation from a man with AI psychosis. At best they are validating a persons delusionsThey should be calling in a wellness check not reporting on Steven Adler's delusions as if its factThese are people who are tasked with safety, who fundamentally do not understand the technology or have lost the plot so much that its impossible to argue they are not having an episode of mental illnessThis can't even remotely be called journalism

"Spy chief warns of China espionage threat to business, critical infrastructure" - ABCBased off the line: "'And yes, we have seen Chinese hackers probing our critical infrastructure as well'"I don't doubt there are state actors in China doing offensive operations, what I don't believe is that this spy chief, or more often than not in intelligence, propagandist, can tell who is behind 'probes' of a networkI expect to be lied to, but I just would prefer if the lies were at least compelling

You will know the EU leadership is taking the the US and Greenland threats seriously when they cut off Palintr, or other defense contractors that are deeply intertwined with US intelligence from government contractsEverything else is just pandering and posturing so they look like they are doing something in the news while doing nothing that matters
