       I literally haven't even started work yet and I've already gotten a phishing text claiming to be my new employer's CEO.Data points: it went to an old phone number I ported to Google Voice a long time ago and don't use anymore. I also updated LinkedIn to say I'm starting this new job. Hypothesis: a bot watches for LinkedIn messages like that, then combines them with their own contacts database to automate phishing at scale.

       @tek isn't this spear phishing when they specifically target you as employee of a specific company that they get to know you are.spear thrown too early

       @tek over enthusiastic. i'd also think spearphishing most likely targets emails from the company domain. i wonder if you already got your new company email id and they sent it there.

       @tek i like the subtlety of address book updating situation. i was not so nice when i ditched twitter, insta, whatsapp. when i ditched fb, the general public was not even there. :P orkut was when companies were not yet so shameless about user selling, so i had good time good convos and good friends there. some very close as well.
