What baffles me is people who are against neutering animals. Because living with periodical strong reproductive drive that doesn't have an outlet is worse than not, for the animal's emotional wellbeing. They don't have human social construct of gender and they don't think they become lesser men or women for not having some organs. But if they do regularly want to have sex, what are you suggesting we all should do about it? Let them and deal with a large amount of cubs nobody can accommodate later? Fuck them ourselves? Just watch them suffer?

@comrade_lecter I am surprised that you would take that stance. It's changing the animal "for its own good" without any input from the animal. If you do that to a human, then the burden shouldn't be on the patient to prove that they would be negatively impacted by having the choice made for them. Maybe we don't have any good alternatives, but it's still not good to be in the position of needing to make that decision.Only partly related: are these people against sterilization generally, or only the specific methods of spaying and neutering?

@shoulderdemon isn't it literally anything humans do to domestic animals though? Vaccination, choice of food, walking on leashes or keeping indoors altogether, other surgeries? They do not give input on any of that, because it's impossible to fully explain the context and potential consequences to them. Also, I saw people against neutering in general.

@comrade_lecter Yes it is. But I don't think it's baffling that people would want to make marginally fewer choices on the animal's behalf.I can accept that realistically some form of sterilization is needed (possibly one that doesn't affect hormones), that animals will not be able to understand the implications, and that this situation is not ideal. What would be ideal? I really don't know.
