@Dr_Obvious @adam I have not yet informed myself about graphene os. In what capacity would you use it?Signal is great but not the right thing for my usecase. It is not federated (afaik) so its not what I want.

@haui @Dr_ObviousI love the idea of bridges, but find the implementations lacking.If we can get more developers interested in joining the existing bridge projects, I feel like it could be a lot better.At least, for the open protocols. The closed source ones that ban you for using open source clients (e.g. Discord) are likely to be an uphill battle for as long as they are around. Someday those will probably be as popular as AOL, Yahoo and MySpace are today. 😝

@martyn @adam my main goal is getting independent of megacorps. Switching from plex to jellyfin would not advance this so i will do it when the time is right. Atm, I am focused on getting into kodi (which might also be a good replacement).

@haui @martyn I thought Jellyfin was an open source server and client, entirely self hosted, no big corporations involved?Clearly I don't use it personally, but if it's not what In thought it was, I'll stop pointing people in that direction.

@adam @Dr_Obvious honestly, I think it is insane how many cool tools are out there in the open source space. I would have never thought that bridges for such a young thing as matrix are this far in development. But you’re right. Developers are needed in general and its still a very sought after skill and many reasons keep people out of open source development.Not sure yet how to change that.

@adam @martyn I dont know about the client and server thing but I‘m talking about plex (which is also not made by a mega corporation and therefore brought me closer to my goal). Additionally, I‘m working on kodi for unrelated reasons and probably wont need jellyfin for now.I can see how my wording wasnt ideal to avoid misunderstanding.

@adam @haui yes, jellyfin is the opensource equivalent of Plex, client is usually web or a thin wrapper.
