I saw an article about the cyber truck being a 48v system rather than 12v, and that they are pushing the industry to do the same.Anyone know if 48v can shock someone through dry skin?

@bquirky @Malarkey33 it is not the voltage that kills, voltage hurts. It is the amperage that kills. 0.05 of an Amp can stop the heart.

@TonyG @bquirky @Malarkey33 and since you need voltage to have current, and if you know ohm's law, current is voltage divided by resistance z which in the case of a human is about 100,000 ohms....

@TonyG @bquirky most batteries have the current capacity to kill, but don’t have a high enough voltage to deliver meaningful current through dry skin. It’s why you can touch + and - terminals on a car battery capable of hundreds of amps and be totally fine. But if you increase the voltage you could be in trouble.

@Malarkey33 @TonyG @bquirky which assuming dry-ish skin and 0.05 A being lethal, translates to 5,000 volts needed on average to kill you. I mean, don't get me wrong, 230V we have here in Europe in the wall will give you a nasty jolt, but after receiving a bunch over the years, I'm a walking proof that it will not kill you, unless it makes you hit your head on something real hard

@ThatCrazyDude @Malarkey33 they have a low voltage circuit for accessories, just like an ICE. I have an EV, it drives me nuts that it even has a 12V battery. I'm sure there's a good reason why they can't just run accessories off of the main battery but it's unbeknownst to me.

@MrAnthrope @Malarkey33 do they really have a 12v battery or just some sort of buck converter to supply 12v from whatever drive battery they have? It kinda seems inefficient to me to have an extra battery just to have 12V circuit...

@ThatCrazyDude @Malarkey33 I've had two different brands of EV. 12V battery in each. It might protect the main battery from being drained while the car is "off," the 12V battery can handle system standby, lights that are left on, etc., and if that gets over discharged, oh well.

@ThatCrazyDude @Malarkey33 @bquirky current = Amperage
