This is incredible! I wonder how #Portugal 🇵🇹 was able to pull this off‽ Six days without using #FossilFuels & relying solely on #CleanTech / #GreenEnergy is quite an achievement! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👉🏾 Portugal just ran on 100% renewables for six days in a row https://www.canarymedia.com/articles/clean-energy/portugal-just-ran-on-100-renewables-for-six-days-in-a-row I am not sure how this could work in the #UnitedStates 🇺🇸, but Portugal’s 🇵🇹 real world experiment is promising.

@darnell I live in Portugal. We’ve got loads of hydroelectric dams, wind turbines everywhere, and massive solar farms along the Algarve, which is the sunniest region in Europe.

@darnell a mix of good (for solar) and bad (for hydro and wind) weather. The means for renewable energy production are installed, ready to work. I'd love to keep it going for more than 6 days, but a severe drought and unstable weather don't help. There seems to be no way to store excess power, so we sell it to where it is needed (it could be worse). @aram

@darnell Looking at Portugal’s electricity sources, it’s easy - just take all valleys in the US and flood them for hydro power dams. E.g. Great Canyon would make a pretty good hydro power reservoir, Silicon Valley also sounds like a good candidate for a hydro dam.https://app.electricitymaps.com/zone/PT
