The more and more I see folks complaining about harassment (not direct abusive language, but busybody “well actually” crap), the more I wonder if opt-in sentiment analysis could help filter that out with automated CWs.Though, I realize that’s very much antithetical to what a lot of folks on Fedi want out of the service, as it strays into the realm of automated decision-making. :/I at least hope we’re doing something reasonable job here with moderation to make it less of a concern, but I honestly don’t know. For every report we get, I imagine there’s ~1-5 more that never get sent in for fear of inaction / the poster not technically breaking rules.

I just wish people wouldn’t fall into such overuse of social media, or make it the foundational part of their lives, to end up getting so emotionally affected by it. Everyone keeps trying to come up with technical solutions for something that’s probably more a symptom of overuse/over-dependence.Comparatively, the best thing I did with Telegram when I was getting burnout was just to simply be in less chats, and be on it less for a time. Even a few days of tuning it out would usually end up giving time for clarity about what circles were too dysfunctional to bother with.Meanwhile, also, I virtually almost never use the block button. I’ve only blocked someone probably a total of 3 times in my entire life (typically being people I’ve personally known and tolerated for years, and realized there’s no hope of them improving; that they’re purely pathological, and only lean on me for manipulation). Whereas those that heavily depend and knee-jerk react with the block button seem to be those that increasing get more easily distressed, that I honestly believe overdependence/misuse of it actually feeds into people’s neuroticism. Likely many of these short-term “solutions” may instead just feed into long-term counterproductive outcomes, and I don’t think many really introspect on it carefully enough.
