so in October Gmail started rejecting mail from unauthorized senders (https://blog.google/products/gmail/gmail-security-authentication-spam-protection/) and let me tell you there's a LOT of MAJOR (and minor) companies that are not getting their messages in people's inboxes because they don't have those DKIM records set up. also pretty much anything that will "email" something on your behalf, using your own email in the From header, is getting blocked by Gmail rn.

@logoninternet The article you mention does not completely back your claim. According to Google, it will start only in 2023. Also, it only applies for > 5000 emails a day. And requiring DKIM is quite reasonable. Also, I just sent to Gmail an email with a header From: claiming to be from the Prime Minister office and it arrived.

@bortzmeyer Requiring DKIM is great. We need to fix email. Not sure why my post was interpreted as the opposite.

@bortzmeyer @logoninternet See https://support.google.com/mail/answer/81126#zippy=%2Crequirements-for-all-senders (it contains text about "If you send more than 5,000 messages per day to Gmail accounts" but only so as to point to the lower section with further requirements for such.

@bortzmeyer Also I am already seeing it in Google Workspace fwiw. Guess they're rolling it out there first. Good to know we can pretend to be the prime minister for fun still though, for a bit longer.

@logoninternet @bortzmeyer back in the day you could just pipe a file to sendmail with any from: address and any dates you wanted. Email from Santa at the North Pole, emails from the future, good times.

@dingodog19 @logoninternet It still works, netcat is your friend (or a three-lines program in Python).
