       The trusty flora ID App tells me these leaves belong to an #AmericanSweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua), which is native to warm temperate areas of eastern North America and tropical montane regions of Mexico and Central America. Sweetgums are recognizable by the combination of its five-pointed star-shaped leaves (similar to maple leaves) and its hard, spiked fruits.This tree is almost bare, however a handful of beautiful leaves still remain. Notice how the setting sun accentuates the rich network of veins throughout each leaf structure?
