I mean no disrespect to military veterans. I do wish, however, that more public servants got the same level of recognition as they do in my country (US) do. It's always seemed weird to me that we revere people so much for a particular career choice. Like many other occupations, I am grateful there are people willing to choose to do it because I wouldn't want to. Yes, it can be a tough and dangerous job (the fatality rate seems to be similar to roofing but lower than logging or fishing/hunting workers) but it's not volunteer work. There is compensation and benefits for choosing to do it. Why don't we have IRS Agent parades and give discounts to Clerks of Court and offer an earnest "Thank you for your service" to all educators?I am open to having my mind changed. I know I often fail to consider some important angle that is obvious to others.
