@Weyowi I have the exact same opinion about women doing that. Sexually motivated or no, this isn't something that should ever happen - because the child lacks control of the process. Where an adult can safely decline and have that answer respected (even if their parents would like them to consent), or legally sue the photographer if they were forced or coerced, a child cannot. I am already iffy about clothed and casual photos of children, and I'm inclined to say only the child themselves should be allowed to spread them, but nude photos or photos in otherwise vulnerable positions (e.g. sick or scared) are just a big no.

@Weyowi something being normalized in the society doesn't make it feel good for the participants. Photos of children in pain are very normal. It still is humiliating. But also, I'm not going to make statements about Carroll himself because he's long dead and doesn't have a say in this discussion anymore. I just don't want to make him a symbol of being gl here and now. As a gl of the modern era, I am not represented by this.

@comrade_lecter @Weyowi In Victorian times, art often used the motif of naked children (especially girls) as a symbol for innocence and purity. Early photography tried to emulate art and paintings. The nude pictures Carroll took only make up a tiny fraction of all the pictures he created, and he always made sure to involve the guardians and to seek their permission. He was also very open about it, so it was not like he took nude pictures of girls in secret for his own sexual pleasure – he considered them art he created in his free time.All in all, I think it's not fair to apply the standards of the 21st century digital age with regard to nude pictures of children to Carrolls times.

@comrade_lecter @sirius @Weyowi We have such a prevalent issue of "family vloggers" exploiting children's images nonsexually, along with poor child actor regulations (and I love child actors, most of my favorite movies include minors). I don't think photos of children themselves are inherently bad, but this just isn't a position to argue for anymore - nude images of children will *always* be more inherently dangerous for coercion and exploitation. I know you might have an idolization of Caroll for being a mainstream gler, and you deserve to feel that community. To have role models to look up to. Etc. But you have us (and other sites I'm sure exist). You don't need a dead man who exploited minors. (Not trying to sound rude)I would really encourage you to put this energy of gl into focusing on the glers in the here and now that deserve attention for both all they contribute to the ymap community and for the very real girls who need nonsexual, non coerced support (youthlib, advocating for rights, etc.)/nm

They'll post their own photos if they want to when they create their own social media accounts. Parents should keep their feelings to private unless they received an explicit permission from the child.

@Weyowi @cottonnsheepp @sirius if you want a place where you can post stuff like "I love it when parents control their children and violate their autonomy 😋", I think you should look into registering elsewhere. Children are not entertainment, they are a marginalized and oppressed group of people. And I'm not saying that because I secretly want to replace their parents as an authority figure in their life, I'm saying that because I believe they deserve to have the control. Especially the control over their public image. If they can't make an Instagram account and post a selfie, but another person can take a photo of them and post it whether they like it or no, what kind of a life is that?

@Weyowi @cottonnsheepp @sirius I do express positive feelings - at statements or courses of action that uplift marginalized people instead of making fun of their oppression.There are many ways to connect to the youth that are not enforcing their social position. My aoa starts at 11, people that age are present online, I can discuss the world and life with them, we can share art, or just hang out as friends.
