If #Brexit supporters wanted to raise an actual valid criticism of European Union, instead of the worn and essentially false “banana curvature” stories, there’s a perfect example in Directive 2001/83/EC. It’s a important directive on medical efficacy evidencing standards that, foundational to all modern medicine. And yet, it’s contaminated by 100% pseudo-scientific nonsense, lobbied by a few influential manufacturers from France and Germany:(21) Having regard to the particular characteristics of these homeopathic medicinal products, such as the very low level of active principles they contain and the difficulty of applying to them the conventional statistical methods relating to clinical trials, it is desirable to provide a special, simplified registration procedure for those homeopathic medicinal products which are placed on the market without therapeutic indications in a pharmaceutical form and dosage which do not present a risk for the patient.Read: because medical efficacy of pure water and sugar sold as “homeopathic remedies” is impossible to demonstrate, we just allow it without any evidence.The next section makes a nod to the German companies who are into #antroposophy business, a similar sectarian movement:(22) The anthroposophic medicinal products described in an official pharmacopoeia and prepared by a homeopathic method are to be treated, as regards registration and marketing authorization, in the same way as homeopathic medicinal products.Of course, Brexit supporters did not raise this argument as part of their criticism of EU. Same goes for anti-vaxxers and other conspiracy theorists believing EU is at the mercy of omnipotent lobby groups who make people wear cough masks in the breaks between conducting black masses under Satan’s and Bill Gates’ portraits.Why? @t_mkdf Well, it’s business lobbying at its best 🤷 There’s a good article about the situation in Poland, where the Medical Council published a statement advising doctors not to prescribe homeopathy, then Pharmacist Council stepped in and said the opposite, and Ministry of Health was caught in the middle and ultimately argued “if we banned homeopathy we’d be in violation of EU directive”.https://magazynpismo.pl/rzeczywistosc/reportaz/homeopatia-wysokie-stezenie-absurdow/

@kravietz The problem here is, from the perspective of the #Brexit supporters this is not a problem.Complaining about the EU accommodating the wishes of an MS, when their story is always about the EU dictating to the MS unreasonable demands, would undermine their own story.But yes, some scientific show on German public TV has rather brutally shown the absurdity of the laws governing homeopathy, by making homeopathic lemonade.

@kravietz And pointing out that all the manufacturers of these highly potent homeopathic medicines (by their own claim, snigger), are disposing this highly toxic chemical waste water via the normal city wastage. @kravietz yes. And anthroposophy (and homeopathy with it) is well connected in the "relevant" parts of society in the DACH countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) via the Waldorf schools.E.g. our MPs in the state and federal parliament were both educated in a Waldorf school.
