First FreeBSD VM transformed into a jail-in-jail, everything's working perfectly for now. The client claims to notice a performance improvement in the CMS - placebo effect or truth?I'll be proceeding with the second one shortly. #FreeBSD #Virtualization #JailInJail #Tech #SysAdmin #IT

@stefano There is a reason why its possible to run 1000 simultaneous #FreeBSD #Jails on a old laptop and not 1000 Bhyve VMs :)

@vermaden true! And with the ram and disk I'm going to save, I can host more VMs/jails on the same host.

@stefano a box in a box in a box ... and the network is perfectly fine with what must be a double bridgewhen a system is well designed, it goes sometimes beyond your expectations

@Neirac @jcamos @vermaden i don't know if there's a limit, but I've created over 1000 jails on a single host and had no problems.

@Neirac @jcamos @vermaden @stefano The old Solaris limit of 8192 came from the days of shared IP zones, because there was a hard limit of how many virtual interfaces you could create on a physical interface. I've gone into 1000s when experimenting. These days with crossbow the sky's the limit, but you're likely to hit a resource constraint somewhere eventually.

@ptribble @Neirac @jcamos @vermaden @stefano With Triton at Joyent we noticed performance issues with ZFS when there were too many datasets. This can happen easily with Docker images that have many layers. Because of this, Triton caps it at 224* zones per CN, but we've *never* had a customer or user reach this limit before the physical resources are fully consumed.* This limit is in the provisioning algorithm. SmartOS itself has a limit of 8192 zones.
