I don't think most of the Anglosphere is getting that Milei isn't just a run-of-the-mill fascist. He's a *Miltonian* fascist.Fairy tales about free markets have always been sold to American countries by the USA to scam them out of their wealth, but the USA attitude of "free market for thee, protectionism for me" makes the game pretty obvious. As a result the decades of privatisation have been transparently just the selling-out of cynical politicians who don't really believe in the liberal gospel other than as polemics for electoral cultural wars. Figures like Bolsonaro always lived in tension with the campaign promises of liberalisation, and the fascist impulse to have a strongman military State own all national resources.Milei is, as far as anyone can ascertain, a true believer. And the Argentinian elite is desperate enough that, who knows, they might not rein him as much as the Brazilian "big center" puppetered Bolsonaro. It remains to be seen, but we might in the next few years have the spectacle of watching those free-market-libertarian theories, that have always failed so catrastrophically at small tryouts, get at last the reach and opportunity and resources to fail at unprecedented levels.

@ramonita The free market libertarian theories have already failed catastrophically, especially in South Americahttps://newrepublic.com/article/172441/milton-friedman-met-pinochet
