@stux I try to look beyond that and count the successes as belonging to the engineers who actually do the work not the billionaire that funds it. I do agree though, it's difficult when Elmo is right there in the video.

@stux Agreed. I used to get all excited and share news of SpaceX launches. Now, they just leave me thinking about the environmental damage done by his shortcuts and the incredible waste of talent and materials. And Elon's general awfulness.We aren't escaping to Mars. @stux I have been a space geek all my life. I hate that Space X has received $15 billion dollars in government contracts over 20 years, with about $3 billion granted in 2023 alone.Space X just received its first contract with the Pentagon. It will work on the Star Shield project, about which there is little public information.Is it just me, or does anyone else uncomfortable that Space X owns 53% of ALL active satellites and that they are now delving into military projects?

@stux My whole life, I thought space endeavors should be publicly funded so that "The Public" owned them, and profit motives wouldn't decide design specs.I grudgingly allowed that - in absence of enough public funding - private industry was preferable to no space programs at all. Now, with space endeavors become just another status toy for billionaires, I'm only surprised by how petty, vainglorious, and stupid it turned out to be.

@stux Space is awesome and space science brings people together to solve big problems and make the world a better place. The engineering of today's launch was impressive but unfortunately did not end well. I would much rather have seen a documentary about a global group of students launching a high altitude balloon with their own home built instrument package (for example).It would not have been so big, but the goal and the achievement would have been far greater.
