@thor Huh, whenever I scroll the media tab of artists I follow, most of the old art seems not to be displaying. I'm not sure if it's a glitch or if it's a thing with the cache (though I'm unfamiliar with caching on Masto since it's an admin thing). The problem doesn't happen on cdrom.tokyo or kitty.social, which are other instances I'm in.

@poppyart @thor old attachments have to get pruned, so when you browse old stuff they all have to get fetched again, but the media proxy doesn't like to and rate limits quickly (open thumbnail in new tab you'll see)

@lamp @thor So, is it a solvable problem for the admin or is it inherent with Mastodon/otherwise difficult to solve and we can't do much about it?

@lamp @thor Dang, it must be a problem with this specific instance, then. I guess I'll migrate to another instance if Thor doesn't respond soon. It's a pretty bad setback when trying to view art, which I use this account for.

@poppyart @thor it's with any instance, mastodon's rate limit on media proxy is too conservative. might be easy fix but it's somewhere in the code
