       @thenewoil I use Signal with some people, but couldn't this issue of cost be an argument for decentralized protocols like XMPP or Session or Matrix? I know Signal has led the way with great work, but I like the idea of not putting all my eggs in one centralized basket.

       @TerrorOfDemons I don't disagree necessarily, but Moxie also made some valid arguments against decentralization such as instances frequently being outdated, confusion for newbie users (just look at Mastodon's short rise up the ranks), and other valid concerns: https://blog.dshr.org/2020/09/moxie-marlinspike-on-decentralization.html
