I've been hearing from a lot of writers and editors who are afraid they are going to lose work to tools like ChatGPT. I think some jobs will go away, but it won't be as bad as some people fear. In my newsletter today, I outlined why people will still need writers and editors and how you can change your marketing to be sure your clients understand your value.https://ai-sidequest.beehiiv.com/p/clients-still-need-ai-world#ChatGPT #Claude #AI #AmWriting #AmEditing

@grammargirl Hey Mignon, great piece and very timely.I would like to also add to your thoughts, the broader topic of Industry 4.0 - which includes AI, robotics, etc. and which for writers (and others) presents a wide array of risks and opportunities.-M

@mloxton Thanks! I hadn't heard that term, but I read this piece about it, and will keep an eye on it now. https://www.mckinsey.com/featured-insights/mckinsey-explainers/what-are-industry-4-0-the-fourth-industrial-revolution-and-4ir

@grammargirl Here is a semi-tangential thought which I hope is welcome in your mentions. Is it possible that people undervalue human writing because so many clicks are fraudulent? Maybe they’re hiring robots to write because they mostly expect robots to read?I wonder how much air will go out of the AI writing bubble, when and if click fraud is eliminated. Because robots don’t care if they’re being served word slurry instead of artisanal farm-to-table intellectual product, but people do.

@fivetonsflax Interesting. I do think AI is going to kill most websites that provide simple answers and rely on SEO. Why would people Google "what is a comma splice" when AI can give them a concise answer without having to see ads or even click through, for example.

@fivetonsflax Maybe when the nature of the web changes, companies will have different writing needs. Or maybe they just won't need a lot of web content, so the jobs for people who write that kind of content will go away, not because AI replaced them but because the jobs just disappeared.

@grammargirl First of all, you get what you pay for, price is what you pay, value is what you get.

@fivetonsflax True. The other thing I thought of later is that I also thought Google Snippets would kill our website, and it only decreased traffic a bit, so maybe I'm wrong about people changing their searching behavior en masse.
