#Ukraine commander on Kupyansk axis Denis Yaroslavsky explains the principles of modern warfare:> One mortar shell costs us €300. To acquire a target, like an enemy trench, you need to fire one shell, look, correct, fire another and so on. This can take up to 10 rounds, and then you're still not guaranteed to destroy the target because they can be sitting down in a well protected shelter.> But then you've got a FPV drone which also costs €300 and just one can eliminate the whole position as it's able to fly precisely into the shelter e.g. carrying a thermobaric grenade. He also says while Ukraine was first to master the FPV drones, Russians usually copy everything in roughly 4 months.Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXyJfdRqFYM (Ukrainian)

@kravietz there's bound to be a curve for how inventive Ukrainians can be with modern war, and I suspect we are reaching the zenith of that curve due to technological limitations.

@aureliuspublius Innovation is one side, but also sheer volumes do matter - especially volumes of FPV drones and their pilots.

@kravietz which side has an advantage in acquisition of FPV drones at this stage of the war and where is it trending?

@aureliuspublius Yaroslavsky says both Ukraine and Russia are buying from Chinese manufacturers at wholesale. He said occasionally they have to wait for Russian batch to be finished, then Russian waits for them etc. I think the advantage can be now achieved only by moving the manufacturing inland so into Ukraine and EU.

@kravietz that explains why I've seen so much movement towards in-Europe manufacturing of drones. China must be making a killing from supplying both sides, even at wholesale.

@kravietz @aureliuspublius bizarre the batch thing. Capitalism + globalism meets land warfare. Uff.
