…HUH. Long-COVID destroys synapses, and is a major contributor to the brainfog. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41380-022-01786-2This goes some way to shining a light on the promising results they've been seeing in testing nicotine patches as treatment for long covid: nicotine effects synapse formation and receptivity (teats using patches because they don't habit-form and aren't, y'know, SMOKE).But what's super interesting to me is that another thing thats has also been shown to encourage synapse growth? Is psilocybin.https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34228959/

@Wolven This is huge for the micro dosing community. They'll most likely see a great influx of people.I wonder if the same is true not just for Psilocybin but other psychoactive drugs like LSD as well.

@Wolven Oh, I'd rather try the shrooms. It's a much nicer trip, if you're not acidentally overdosing.

@Wolven Is much prefer the psilocybin but it's not legal in my country. What's the risks with nicotine? Besides addiction.

@WolvenLong covid posts on Twitter get swamped with replies from bots promoting microdosing. I imagine it's going to get quite hard soon to find the genuine info in amongst all the incoming grifters :/

@Wolven A friend of mine did research on the effects of nicotine on alcohol-induced brain damage, way back in the '80s.

@Weanerdog Nausea, and that some people don't tolerate it well, pretty much? But this paper goes into it a lot more https://bioelecmed.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s42234-023-00104-7

@Wolven thanks for sharing. It's the first I've heard about nicotine as a possible treatment, and it's a shame it's such a small (5) number of patients involved.I would have thought it would be relatively easy to gather secondary evidence of nicotine as treatment, given the numbers of both (1) people with long-COVID, and (2) the number of people who Vape these days - I'd expect regular Vapers to have measurably fewer cases of long-COVID than non-Vapers.

@Wolven So, I can have mushrooms again and take up smoking again?? It's like all the things they told us were bad for us are actually good for us. Figures.
