I wonder what Apple’s going to do, now that ChatGPT and Bing are making Siri look like a Bondi blue iMac.

@clive Yes, it was striking, but a) I hated the round hockey puck mice and b) they weren't super powerful. OK bad analogy. I just feel like Apple won't sit idly by while its AI assistant lunch gets eaten by OpenAI. They're also watching Google flail.

@irwin That puck was hilariously terrible design And yeah, you’re right — I’m pretty sure Apple is preparing its own entrant into his realm

@clive They will win on security and integration with Calendar, Shortcuts, and Homekit, if they can stop it from hallucinating.

@irwin PreciselyThings are very neatly integrated in that ecosystem, and ripe for goosing with a bit of LLM juiceI think they could help avoid hallucinations if people's personal bots use retreival-augmented generation and the like ... i.e. they're working from corpuses of the user's own data, and are instructed to primarily do stuff based on the text represented in that corpus (i.e. email, messages, metadata from the phone, docs, etc.)

@clive I'm sure what's keeping them from putting something out is worries about security. If you're operating on mostly client-side data that you promise is private, think of how hard it'll be to test and make sure insanely horrible things you never thought about are not happening or being enabled by Siri.

@irwin Yep yepPrompt injection would be an absolute nightmare for Apple
