       Solutions exist.Obviously it helps to have the resources to access land and work it-- but just have a look at what's possible in one yard. The before/after shots are stunning. This was a bare trash dump 30 years ago. Two acres, turned into a veritable jungle. Planted and maintained by two people. And if those two people disappeared and the land was left to itself, it wouldn't slow down.        Here's an update from the same property, 5 years later.This one household has grown connections to people all over the world. Inspiration flows out, support flows in.        @KeithDJohnsonThe surrounding lots are so flat, and empty... And there in the middle of it all, this EXPLOSION of life.How much carbon is sequestered on just that one property, compared to its neighbors? How many pounds of food might it be producing, per year? How much water does it hold? How many animals and insects live there? Just looking at it does something to me. I want to go. I want to breathe in the air and feel the green of it in my bones.So many people don't even know what that feels like. The joy that tingles under your skin, when some forgotten ancient part of the brain realizes yes, I am standing in a place that supports life, a place that thrives.We're looking at a lifeboat. Places like this are what we need to build, to survive the collapse.

I truly believe that we all know, deep down, that the profoundest joy and meaning to be had on this planet is to be enmeshed in life’s web, to be a participant in it and an amazed observer of it. Our civilization strives to smother this knowledge, to make us forget, but it just strikes me as fundamental within all living beings.
