Here's an update from the same property, 5 years later.This one household has grown connections to people all over the world. Inspiration flows out, support flows in. And there in the middle of it all, this EXPLOSION of life.How much carbon is sequestered on just that one property, compared to its neighbors? How many pounds of food might it be producing, per year? How much water does it hold? How many animals and insects live there? Just looking at it does something to me. I want to go. I want to breathe in the air and feel the green of it in my bones.So many people don't even know what that feels like. The joy that tingles under your skin, when some forgotten ancient part of the brain realizes yes, I am standing in a place that supports life, a place that thrives.We're looking at a lifeboat. Places like this are what we need to build, to survive the collapse.

@jwbates @mia @pluralisticIt cultivates desperation, mistrust, and compassion fatigue that are then used to support the narrative that some people are not worth helping, that everyone is selfish and you have to take whatever you can grab, we don't have sufficient resources to be generous or helpful without risking our own survival, etc etc.

Yes, even if grinds the entire 2024 process to a halt-- which will terrify everyone and result in some very disturbing chaos, which if course the Republicans will exploit to horrifying, violent effect (with establishment help and amplification of course). But at least the true face of our situation would be laid bare and the need for real change made clear.If people had spent more energy movement-building than they spent voteshaming, since 2000 or even just since 2016, we might have a solid organized foundation to stand on-- but the propaganda, the divide-and-conquer shit, successfully manipulated so many cowards into just screaming VBNMW instead of building real resistance to the oligarchy, we're pretty fragmented right now. Liberals keep sneering, "Well you don't have a plan" but goddammit the plan has been the same for generations, they're just too lazy and scared to put their shoulders to the wheel anywhere radical enough to actually make it TURN in earnest. Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Guatemala, a dozen other banana republics, etc etc how many countries? No help for the new constitution they could've had in Egypt with the Arab Spring. No help for the Occupy movement in Turkey. Torn up, no stable secular democracy, just dictators and cartels and religious wackos, miserable chaos and oppression. They know how to exploit and control those conditions, picking and choosing which insurrections succeed and which are squelched, which warlords to do business with, which dissenters to vanish. They'll do it to us too, when we get too uppity and try to shake them off. They'll do it HERE.
