The continuing #costoflivingcrisis is reflected in a pre-xmas drop in consumer spending & suggest that a winter #recession is more likely; Politicians should recall #Keynes focus on 'effective demand' in driving economic activity.Whatever else is wrong about #economic #inequality, if you impoverish the less wealthy (who are much more likely to spend their income/wealth) then you prompt a decline in economic activity.Of course, this is exactly what the BoE want, whatever the social costs!

@ChrisMayLA6 > this is exactly what the BoE want, whatever the social costs! There's nothing like a carefully engineered recession to encourage the 99% to tug our forelocks, and accept whatever bullshit austerity policy is foisted on us. This is the evil genius move of neoliberal strategy; forcing us to choose between rising prices, or rising unemployment. In either case, the House wins. The 1% grow their share of the common wealth, while the rest of us survive on their table scraps.

@strypey @ChrisMayLA6 perhaps as few of us could get together and expropriate the expropriators

@steviesyerda> perhaps as few of us could get together and expropriate the expropriatorsGrowing the solidarity economy seems like a good way of doing that. One thing I've consistently read is that co-operatives and worker-managed social enterprises do better through recessions that most other small-to-medium businesses...@ChrisMayLA6

@strypey @steviesyerda Certainly our local community #broadband supplier #B4RN would seem to confirm that assertion... they're doing fine, expanding & still delivering world class broadband while the big firms are having all sorts of problems
