headphone wizards of fedi, heed my calli have never been able to wear any set of headphones for longer than an hour—everything from cheap headsets to DT770s—without major discomfort. please shill the most comfortable headphones you have ever used, regardless of baggage, sound quality or price range. i just need a workhorse for when speakers aren’t right

@aj personally, AKG K550 with aftermarket Brainwavz XL velour soft pads. the default ones have better sound isolation but they're a bit firmer and sweatier.unfortunately the K550s are discontinued, so second hand is the only place to get them. but they are excellent and *very* comfortable.AKG is now just a hollow brand name used by Samsung to sell cheap crap after they gutted the original factory and all the staff left, so don't take this as a recommendation for any brand new AKGs.

@aj I've been wearing them 10+ hours a day for 9 years straight. I have two studs in the top of one ear and never got any discomfort from the headphones pressing on them during that time.only recently had the cable die on me, so I did a 3.5mm socket mod on them which brought them back to life. not the easiest repair I've done but only took a couple of hours work.

@icedquinn searched “ploopy headphones” with one eyebrow raised only to discover this cool-ass wacky hobbyist shit—excellent. KSC75s are the most bearable thing I’ve tried, so hopefully your tastes are similar to mine, thanks for the rec

@slowfallinward weight and earcup design seems promising…thanks for the rec, the M50X was unambiguously wrong for me but this seems like it might be in the right direction

@aj sennheiser hd 569 — lightweight, low pressure, flexible, and as a bonus it sounds decent enough :p

@phoenix 3 seconds of research on the shp9500 turns up reviews asking “WILL IT CHANGE YOUR LIFE” and redditors lamenting “i wish someone had told me to buy this earlier so i could be done with this fucking hobby”, what’s your take relative to that ludicrous hype

@aj the sound quality is good and it feels fine, not premium but good, it's just the best open back in its price bracket

@aj AKG K612/K712* are the ONLY headphones I can keep on all day, tho I don't have that much headphone experience to know if they're the best. Everything else I tried I can't keep for more than like 2 hours, is just worse or in the case of the Sundara, in a special spot just in case I miss the extra bass (but still uncomfy)* same sound, K712 is more expensive, detachable locking cable but both are kinda built not great for the price

@ash “hard to drive” and “suspect build quality” are two rough qualities to swallow for workhorse cans, but those earcups do look obnoxiously cozy, will keep an eye on this

@aj The earcups are massive but the build quality almost makes them a problem for me, the elastic in the headband has kinda loosened up a bit too much over time in mines and now the top of the earcup presses on the top of my ear since the headband is not strong enough to keep them up. They're not too bad to take apart so I'll prolly try to fix them up out of sheer fear of having to switch to something else which should tell you how much I like them, I just wish they weren't built this bad.
