somehow falling back into the PSO2:NGS hole. i think i just needed to not be playing hunter? hu sword in particular feels like it’s caught at a weird midpoint, where it no longer has the things i liked about it from oracle, but it isn’t fast enough or vertical enough to comfortably handle the demands of NGS’s combat—probably this is a learn-to-play issue but, like, slayer is right there and lets me access the serotonin instantly

i think i’m falling out of love with FFXIV—there’s just no midpoint between “sleepwalk-difficulty garbage content” and “you have to explain calculus to a room of 7 clowns except you’re also a clown”, and that’s bugged me for a long time. it feels like that gulf only gets wider as the game develops, while the things i like about my combat toolkits are farther and farther away.i keep thinking back to OG PSO2’s ultimate quests, the only MMO content i’ve ever played that hit a perfect balance of “can be pushed infinitely hard” and “can be approached with infinite chill”. you had to earn the privilege of comfortably existing in those zones, it took practice and awareness, but once you had the skill it felt like gliding—smooth and frictionless. there’s something almost meditative about it, and i want to look for it in more places

@Lucy Keychron makes pretty good no-fuss boards at a lot of price ranges; their acoustics are alright, no giant empty echoey boxes, and IIRC all of them have hotswap sockets, allowing you to easily change the switches without soldering.Get one of those, then get some silenced switches like Bobagums (linear) or Gazzew U4s (tactile—don’t confuse with the U4T), and you’re golden IMO.

@Lucy (oh yeah, be careful of switch compatibility when you’re shopping around, their low-profile offerings won’t work with most MX-style switches IIRC—that stuff’s noted in the product description tho)

@ash yeah, it’s largely just manual exposure + extra lights, i’ve played around a little with color-correction LUTs but i feel like i’m always losing some contrast. i do have one piece of ancestral knowledge to be passed down through oral tradition; the c922x needs to be reinitialized (turn it off and on) after changing certain settings, or it’ll get stuck at low framerates as if it’s not getting enough light

i feel like most of my friends treat VR as a vacation destination, a Place You Sometimes Go To, and most VR developers and manufacturers treat VR as, like, The Place You Are Destined To Be Foreverso every time we try to meet up, the small percentage of people that live and breathe this shit get online with no problems, and everyone else who hasn’t touched SteamVR in two months has to work out why everything’s different and all their devices are fucked up and why their external battery stopped passthrough chargingplease god, just something unambitious and stable

ever since getting into riichi, I’ve had the idea that the best way to teach a novice is to start with Literally Just Build A Closed Hand, then hand them the yaku infographic and say “you know those pon and chi buttons? they are how you enable expert hand building mode. have fun”so far, this seems to be working, got at least one person from a kart-adjacent friend group hooked. now to see if it generalizes(play SEGA Net Mahjong MJ for PC/Android/iOS)

@Muffinlord the courage to clap my novice friends on the shoulder, look them dead in the eye, and tell them “brother, that call was straight ass, your only hope is fishing for half flush”but people LOVE pushing the call buttons because it makes exciting things happen, so you want to empower them to do that! they just, uh, also need to learn the game eventually LOL
