Imagine you are in 1950's America. Segregated 1950's America. And instead of a civil rights movement dominated by peaceful resistance with leaders like Martin Luther King Jr., the movement was defined by radical violence financed by our most fearful enemies. Black ghettos dominated by terrorist organizations who launch missiles at homes and schools, women and children are murdered, and the whole south becomes militarized. In this fictional world the civil rights movement fails because hatred grows. Palestinians face this same end because there is no Mahatma Gandhi or Martin Luther King Jr. to lead peaceful resistance. And it would work. Israel is a western-style liberal state. Organized passive resistance calling for full rights and freedom of movement would work, if that was the goal of Palestinian leadership and if they employed peaceful resistance to immoral laws. Sadly, that's not their goal. Their goal is "Us or Them." I feel sorry for sincere Palestinians who suffer such evil and incompetent leadership. #Gaza #Israel #Palestine #Hamas

It's relative to an arbitrary start date. You can say the American Indians, the natural population, was being replaced by people they couldn't defend again.In the case of Mandatory Palestine, after 1947, the natural population of Sephardic Jews and Arabs were being replace by a massive illegal immigration/diaspora of Ashkenazis from the US and Europe. The actual ethnicity of the people didn't matter; the culture was being replaced.

Peaceful resistance can work, but it requires showing the capacity for violence. Gandhi had a cult of personality and was in a country where Indians were massacring people to fight the British Raj. People believed in him so much the nation came to a crawl when he refused to eat for weeks.Martin Luther King preached non-violence while he was surrounded with armed guards exercising their 2nd amendment rights. He stood in direct opposite to those behind Malcom X.If 300k Palestine came to the Northern wall of Gaza and broadcast a hunger strike for weeks, in the modern world of instant broadcasting, the Israeli government could not stand against them despite the terrorism of Hamas. Sadly, there is no such leader in Gaza. Over 50% of the people are under 25. Many who were smart enough and could find visas left a long time ago. The adults are gone or have been armored bulldozed over. Only the angry and bitter are left.

@meowski That's a small country problem. Every small country relies on foreign help for basic resources. It never works well when you make enemies from your neighbors. IMO they'd be better off if they could talk Egypt into taking them back. They need to be part of a bigger market with access to more jobs and resources.

@meowski Gaza was formally part of modem Egypt. Egypt lost it to Israel but doesn't want it back. Neither Israel nor Egypt want open borders with Gaza. Hamas, the government of Gaza had failed to deal with that problem. The West Bank situation is entirely different from Gaza and should not be addressed as if they were the same.

@52fighters before the balfour declaration it was a sovereign state called palestine. the region has been ruled by multiple different powers but you're talking about ancient history. i don't know what your end game here is but you make very manipulative argumnents. probably a shill of some sort.
