The Associated Press -- like essentially every other major journalism outlet -- has totally normalized extremism. Calling the new house speaker a "staunch conservative" -- a pathetically weak euphemism for far-right extremist -- is only the latest example of Big Journalism's collapse into willful helplessness. It's journalistic cowardice in the face of a movement that aims to bring down democracy, and by extension journalism.

@dangillmor Why is it that "journalism" never seems to respond in any way to the barrage of criticism, such as this post, that is directed at them daily? Could it be that the OWNERS of "journalism" no longer give a f**k what anyone thinks about their product? Could it be that "journalism" is ALREADY DEAD and its corpse is being used to NORMALIZE EXTREMISM because that's what the OWNERS want?

@OlDude82 @dangillmor Journalism doesn't change (not the same as care) because corporations/ads etc pay for low quality fluff, apathy, extremism, reductionism, sensationalism, populism. "Give up, buy another product."Audiences don't want to pay for high quality journalism anymore.Journalists have mortgages & bills like everyone else. Most would be ecstatic to do what they originally wanted, important socially relevant reporting, they just need an audience to care enough to pay for it.

@OlDude82 @dangillmor "We have a massive cost of living crisis, so we can't afford to pay for quality journalism."well...We have a massive cost of living crisis essentially because we DIDN'T pay for quality journalism.
