@moffintosh@berserker.town The current job market is 100% the blame of employers. They should be held accountable, but instead they're working with governments to make life so unbearable that people will accept starvation wages in order to not die or end up homeless. Some people are homeless even still.

@moffintosh my old roommate was turned down for a secretary position at the DOJ because her student loans are in the income based payment plan, and because her income is not high her payment is $0. So her credit report says paying as agreed, but the DOJ claimed she would not pass a background check because having a zero payment on your student loans is somehow seen as screwing over the government even though they assigned her that payment.But nobody wants to work. 🤷🏻♀️

@neopolitan @moffintosh there used to be a video on youtube of hiring consultants doing a talk about how to construct a job description that nobody domestic could fill and could only be filled by a foreign laborer. at one point they even said explicitly to remember that you do not want to hire the domestic worker so you need to do it this way.

@moffintosh was talking with friends about bartering/haggling in traditional markets, we were talking about strategies and how much we could lower the price of goodsso i just asked them if such strategies could be applied to salary negotiation, then it all turned sombre and were all like "just take what the employer offers"so i ask, is it a common HR practice to reject candidates you're going to hire because they wanted too much before negotiation??

@cell @moffintosh I have tried to negotiate with employers but they have all the power and they know you need a job so I don't recall ever getting anything. A couple times I tried to negotiate for better vacation, I even said "I will take a lower salary if you give me more vacation days" and they literally would not do it.

@Moon @cell @moffintosh the best decision i've ever made is making sure to always gather blackmail material on my immediate superiors. you don't even have to threaten them because that's a crime, just let them know you have it and the guilt and stress will make them treat you better

@adiz @moffintosh we have private banks creating virtually unlimited amounts of money and handing it to themselves and their cronies, but you blame "the employers" for the job market.... at least make a distinction between the mega billionare "employers" and small businesses and productive parts of the economy that are just trying to exist

@condret @neopolitan @moffintosh By not calling it a wage. See, they're not actually employees, they're "self-employed". The company is just very generously offering them business opportunities. If they don't make enough money, it's their own fault. Or they use any of the other loopholes.
