In Machined Hearts, the cyberpunk serial I'm currently writing, the private eye main character Adrian has been hot on the tail of the villain. After chasing him through the depths of an ancient city buried deep beneath the megalopolis Nocturine City, she uncovers a secret hidden beneath the earth: Magic exists and has been hidden away, suppressed by the monopolistic Crescia Consortium to drive sales of cybernetics. They've committed significant resources in order to subdue it enough to prevent the mechanisms that used to seep into every living creature from occurring. I've been playing around with this idea being the big reveal and what turns Adrian's world upside down. The reason why I think it could work is that a) it's maintained by few, everything is automated and b) the main villain is ancient herself and understands the implications of letting it out into the world (loss of power).

In The Star in the Darkness, there is a pivotable moment when Katopodis realizes that Siofra is an elf. Because there is no Katopodis POV chapter, his realization isn't stated outright. Rather, his behavior suddenly changes. He becomes oddly helpful to Orion in an effort that he later reveals he knew would fail. He does this because he wants to show Orion the cynical truth that there aren't any good people in the world. This is important to his character because it is what inspired him to become the villain that he is. Both he and Orion face this realization but make different decisions about it. Where Katopodis decided to join the evil of the world, Orion decides to leave it. Thus, the secession theme of the story is completed.

The broadest event that I can think of which doesn't give away key plot points, is whenever one character reads another character's Authored Book and discovers that the other character exists and is, in fact, human, with thoughts and dreams and triumphs and failures and mistakes and self-talk.This is most evident in "Chasing the White Bear" when Aklaq reads Micah and Micaiah's Book and learns that they do know a thing or two about abuse, and they do know a thing or two about discrimination. But their reaction to and handling of these things are far more mature than her own reactions, which is quite humbling for her.

Bit of a spoiler but Zeanna is killed right in front of the MC despite overcoming insurmountable odds in trying to save her, pushing himself beyond his own limits, only to fail in saving her by a gnat’s wing. Her loss is devastating to all and plunges the MC into depression.

Normally this happens off screen, the story is about the repercussions of whatever it was.Sometimes it gets discovered, as in "Death from a shell," or revealed, as in "In the realm of Carnal Horror," but sometimes it is beside the point. In "Carnal Horror" the MC experiences a feeling of greater doom when he finds out what is expected of him and why. He doesn't get over it.

In "Skin in the Game," when the artist (main character) discovers that his artwork, a tattoo he designed, had applied and removed; has been grafted on the back of an actress in a horror movie, rather than preserved. He is resolved to sue his broker. This sets the plot in motion.Another plaintiff in the suit is assaulted by mobsters who want the suit to go away. Instead of backing down, the character buys a gun, resolved to never to let it happen again. This sets up a big showdown involving artists, lawyers, mobsters, police, and pornographers who were just there to use the conference room.

In Aarde, when Holden takes the N-Light pill he remembers that he is Nesschter and confronts his boss, Xajil. Xajil revealed that Nesschter wanted his memory manipulated so he could forget what he did to help the GSAU. Essentially, at that point in the story, Nesschter's shield of denial shatters; going from a loyal Division 4 Agent to an enemy of the state. He still blames Xajil for what happened (tortured him for information), but he stopped going by Holden, started going by Nesschter again, and accepted his punishment of exile after defeating Xajil. In the sequel that I'm sporadically working on, my goal is to expand on Nesschter trying to atone for what he did.

In Wand Smoke: Tales from the Labyrinth, "Nowhere," protagonist Verrat must decide whether she will side with the human of the fay. This choice represents her muddled blood line. She is really the swapped child of a nixie, making her a doppelganger, but she grew up so thoroughly human that her nature is confused. After being persuaded from both sides, she confronts one of the Faerie Queens nobility about her conundrum.I don't want to spoil too much, but Verrat has to find a third way.
