       "Your brain will lie to you" is one of the most important lessons I ever learned. It will lie to you about something as basic as *what you're seeing* - in more ways than almost anyone realizes. It will lie to you about what's a threat, what's important, how you should feel, who you should trust. The list just never ends. *Your brain lies.* Accept that as fact, and learn to compensate for it.
