       Layoffs should not be the norm.Intentional performance management should avert any personnel issues related to poor performance on a proactive basis. Absent any market-level existential changes impacting an organization, layoffs are indicative of failed management.

       @ericmann I also wanna note that layoffs tend to happen when companies see growth, respond by hiring a lot and then suddenly no longer grow as fast as expected or even shrink again.Suddenly, they need to cut costs, realize they hired too much people and you get those layoffs.In the end, still failed management but a different mistake.

       @finlaydag33k Different mistake. But still failed management. Demonstrates that they didn't think through contingency plans and, as a result of their mistake, other people suffer.
