First was a great conversation with Luke Zettlemoyer on scaling multi-modal generative AI on the #TWIML podcast. Zettlemoyer discussed some impressive advances on using transformer models for images, the importance of data and the limits of current scaling approaches, and why openness is essential for progress to continue in AI. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvfLYcG_8io&t=4s (2/8) #AI #GenerativeAI

Next was a fabulous talk by Simon Johnson on redirecting technological change at Stanford. Johnson delves into the importance of funding potential breakthrough science, pre-positioning for more equitable economic distribution, and why we do really have influence over the direction of technology (examples from medicine, where a strong ethics culture has demonstrably shaped nearly all innovative activity, are a great example). Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEBkoK2jBmk&t=1s (4/8) #economics

Next was an incredible panel on #GenerativeAI and #copyright at #SiliconFlatirons with @HarrySurden, Cynthia Arato, Oren Bracha, Andy Gass, Katherine Lee, and Viva Moffat. There's disagreement aplenty here, as well as rich legal and historical context for this timely discussion. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjlhrqK80f4 (5/8) #law #AI

Next was an important discussion with Laura Boudreau and Ada González-Torres on detecting harassment on the Business Scholarship Podcast. The survey methods introduced here are innovate and their results also demonstrate that harassment and other interpersonal workplace misconduct is likely severely underreported.
