related to my last boost. The cascading effect of *certain* game engines positioning themselves as "free" over past decade, simultaneously opened the door to a lot of companies and developers, but also holds them "hostage" to a certain degree. A lot of them can't change, they have a business built on top of it. Kinda like Facebook almost made it standard for companies to host their "webpage" there. it's "free". it works until it's a big problem. So stay nimble.

@djlink Stay nimble is good advice. Always keep your eyes on alternative tools in case capitalism rears its head again

@turbohermit @djlinkHow many alternatives do you think exist in countries that don't have capitalism? I'm trying to remember what happened the last time someone tried to compete with Tencent but I'm drawing a blank on any such companies that are permitted to exist.

@djlinkI'm a little bewildered how many companies still use Facebook. The last time election season rolled around in my area I literally couldn't do research on some of the candidates because they had Facebook pages instead of websites and I couldn't see them without registering an account. I don't know if I'm just out of touch or what but I feel like there's no way that's a sustainable strategy.
