You don't need to weld the solid rings yourself, you can buy welded rings easily.Making the riveted ones is a bit tricky but you don't need fancy tools to do it. Just a lot of time.Also, in various periods it was common to flatten all of the rings, not just the riveted ones. It makes the shirt stronger. Oh and sometimes they stamped prayers and symbols onto some of the rings.

If you're already buying the wire I think it'd be acceptable to buy rings.i don't think so. there is a big difference in price. i am not in the us where it's easy to find supplies like that in good quality. and shipping and tax from the us is crazy expensive. wire is much easier to get and cheaper, plus i enjoy making the ringsill look up the forge stuff, ty. im planning the next few projects to be out of butted steel rings. it's true welding is far from likely. there are a lot of people soldering rings though and that seems doable, though i don't know how durable that makes them

@emma I looked into it some years ago. I found some pretty cool kits online. There was one with blue, anodised, aluminium rings. Looked spectacular but purist me would never have gone with that. What a cool way to use your time. Regards.
