We thought Simonyan was insane when she proposed nuclear explosion over Siberia, but comes out she was only preparing Russians for what head of Duma Vladimir Volodin has just announced — #Russia exiting from nuclear test moratorium 🤷‍♂️> At the next meeting of the Council of the State Duma we will certainly discuss the question of withdrawing ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty. This is in line with the national interests of our State.Source: https://m.business-gazeta.ru/news/609496

@kravietz Cause how else are you going to capture the imagination of a population of fascists. When the kloptokratic hermit king needs one leg to kick the rabble back into their places and another to kick Ukraine; that doesn't leave a lot to stand on. Guess thermonuclear shock and awe is all that's left at the bottom of ruZZias's barrel of tricks.

@OvertonDoorsI still think this is only Russia playing loco, as usual. And it's as usual targeted at their local population, for several reasons. Firstly, the narrative of "red lines" that can't be crossed disappeared from Russian public media. Simply because they started to be laughed at — for 1½ year they threatened with unimaginable horrors if the "red lines" are crossed, starting from IIRC supply of tanks to Ukraine... Now we're at Ukraine routinely hitting military targets in Russia, fighting with hundreds of Western tanks and supplies of F-16 are expected soon. This clearly demonstrates Putin's inability to project his power on the international coalition, and that's what he was always most afraid of. The nuclear threat is thus the last resort and it allows him some breathing space for some time, as he can now for another year talk of exiting the moratorium, then maybe exit, then for another year talk of a test and maybe eventually even conduct it. If everything is lost for him on the ground in Ukraine, he can always still say "but we are still nuclear superpower" which is the only thing Russians want to hear...

@kravietz it shows that russia only has it's nuclear arsenal left to project power onto the international stage. They lost their economic clout. In part to sanctions and primarily because of the diversification of fossil fuel supply by the EU.And their conventional military - though stronger than I would like it- is not the invincible behemoth it was thought to be.

@t_mkdfHowever, have you also noticed the shift in their narrative regarding nuclear weapons from "we can turn London in radioactive ash in 3 minutes" (Kiselyov) to "we consider exiting nuclear test moratorium treaty"? It seems like they finally understood that threats of using a weapon that may be no longer usable may be worse than no threats at all :)

@kravietz it's also less crazy and a more realistic lever in international relations.I would not be surprised if they really do take up nuclear testing again. In the atmosphere. Just for publicity. Pleasing the Z crowd and sow fear in others.
