After 2 years using the same desktop for editing, running #Fedora and #GNOME, I made a big switch:- first, I replaced both my desktop and my laptop with one single laptop for both use cases- I moved to #KDE plasma- I switched distros! Here is the whole new setup, how I configured KDE, and how everything works!https://youtu.be/No_A22Mdxb0

@thelinuxEXP WHOA. This is indeed surprising! Especially the move to KDE (not that I'll disagree -- I love KDE).

@killyourfm Not a surprise. Future switch was mentioned in some previous video, if I'm not mistaken.@thelinuxEXP

@thelinuxEXP Why is it that always someone presents me with KDE Plasma and shows the setup I always feel like "yeah, but why?".Please dont get me wrong - it's your setup, you need to be productive and feel good on it but for example the "add a 'hide windows icon' to see the widgets on the desktop to catch the moment before the PC struggles" feels kind of painful extra work to do.

@fabiscafe Well, it’s not :) It’s « hey my PC is struggling », then one click and you immediately know why, and you can take action. Compared to opening the system monitor, looking at the apps that use the most CPU, or RAM, or GPU, and then taking action.

@thelinuxEXP seems like a strange switch direction

@Joe_0237 I wouldn’t switch to something that hurts my day job for one sponsored video ;)

@fabiscafe @thelinuxEXP that really depends on your usageAs a developer I have to deal with sudden hardware or software struggles all the time so I have to go and check if I have memory leaking, the server got stuck and spawned a new process instead of replacing the old one, cpu spiking due to another background process, and so onOn the matter of KDE over GNOME, it's a matter of preference. GNOME looks and feels nice but I also feel it lacks many of the interactions I expect of my desktop. I cannot count the times I wanted to right click, drag and drop or just do *something* on a gtk app or gnome shell part and it just didn't have any interaction there. I can get used to that, of course, but GNOME also has to way of working that if you want to change something you most likely need a third party extension that will stop working after an updateIn contrast, KDE has every interaction you expect from a desktop environment and more, with many of the features that gnome extensions give you but they are included. Yeah this can confuse people but I have learned that a feature being there does not mean I have to use it. I just ignore what I don't care about and use the features I do care about. That's it.KDE, for this and other reasons just feels better to use for me and my use case
