       TIL: Did you know that compasses in the northern and southern hemisphere are different? The needles are counterweighted differently due to the downwards pull of the closer pole. If you're from the northern hemisphere and came to visit me in New Zealand, the magnet on the South end of your compass will be pulled down and will drag on the bottom of the compass. Our compasses would be the opposite in the northern hemisphere, dragging on the north end (as that's counterweighted for us).
