I sometimes take surveys for fun (I know; I'm weird), and I often come across #BadSurveyQuestions. Yesterday, in a survey that seemed to be a student project, I was asked questions about how I heat and cool my house.I don't have air conditioning, but a number of questions forced me to answer as if I do. For example, it asked what month I switch from heating to cooling, and there was no n/a option.

@grammargirl If you live in the Midwest, that can always be a question mark. I don't use AC much (maybe 3 total weeks/year), and I try to live by the rule that I don't use the heat and the AC in the same week, but I've cracked a few times.

@grammargirl I just took a Oregon Dept of Transportation survey about implementing tolls on the interstates in the Portland area. None of the questions allowed for expressing an opinion that all three tolling scenarios were poor, or that tolls are not the best way to fund highways.

@grammargirl I would love to know where the creator of this survey lives. Down here in the swamp, it’s rare to find a house without some sort of AC (either central or window units) because without it life would be nigh intolerable during the summer.

@grammargirl Nothing makes me grind my teeth more than surveys that don't have n/a as an option. Makes the whole thing pointless.

@grammargirl I hate that. It’s like the answering system that says “do you need help paying your bill” doesn’t take any input and proceeds to tell you “did you know you can pay online?” Or when Siri gives you a rating while you are asking directions. 🤯
